Article Title Insert Sketch

Invoked by Insert > Sketch  (Part/CAM Level)

Use this command to insert a new part sketch.  A part sketch is one that resides at the part level. Sketches can also be root objects and reside at the object level like a part or drawing packet. These are referred to as Root Sketches.

You can also create sketches in a CAM plan to be used for profiles or containment.

The insertion plane is the only required input.  The optional inputs include the up direction, the plane origin, reference face edges and the ability to orient the sketch to the active view.

CautionWhen Creating a Sketch on a Face
Caution: the origin of a sketch created on a face is at an arbitrary location so you may want to either use the Origin option or create reference edges to dimension from.
