Edit Dimention Value (3D)

Edit > Dimension Value

Use this command to edit a dimension that defines a feature.  A pop-up editor is displayed for quick and easy editing.  Sketch dimensions and locked sketch dimensions can also be edited with this command. Dimension edits to locked sketch dimensions are logged into the active part history as "Dim Mode" operations.

You can also modify a 3D part dimension from a layout view on a drawing sheet.  See Modify Part Dimension from Drawing for more information.

Basic Procedure

  1. After selecting Edit > Dimension Value from the pull down menu, select the dimension to modify. You can right-click to display an Input Options Menu (see Using the Mouse) with options to filter the displayed dimensions.  You can also set the Pick Filter to Dimensions and simply left-click a dimension to modify it.

  2. Enter a new dimension value in the Text Input Field or use the Input Dimension Value Form (see below) for more options.  You can use this form to enter dimensions, variable, or expressions.

Input Dimension Value Form

  • Dimension value field
You can enter the new dimension value here or use the Get Dimension or Get Variable icons to build an expression.  See Equations and Expressions for more information about how to build expressions.

  • Use these icons to increase (+) or decrease (-) the value in the Dimension value field (see above).  The change in value is based on the current step size.  Select the Step Size Button (see Display Elements) to change the current step size.

  •  Get Dimension
Get DimensionSelect a dimension from the active part or press and hold the F7 key to select an external dimension.  The dimension name will be appended to the Dimension value field (see above).  The name of the root object the dimension belongs to is automatically appended to the dimension name. See Variable Naming Conventions for more information.

  •  Get Variable
Get VariableSelect a variable from the Variable Browser.  The variable name will be appended to the Dimension value field (see above).  If the variable belongs to a root object other than the active root object, the name of the root object that the variable belongs to is automatically appended to the variable name.  See Variable Naming Conventions in  Equations, Expressions and Variables .

  • Delay solve
Check this box to delay solving the sketch until the next Solve Current Sketch is executed.  If checked, each modified dimension value is shown in [ ] and the sketch is not updated.

  • OK, Cancel
Pick OK to modify the selected dimension or Cancel to close the form and cancel the command.
